Mervyn e Dylan

Leggendo questa interessantissima biografia di Mervyn Peake mi sono imbattuta in un commovente ritratto a matita di Dylan Thomas addormentato. È strano che nel bel libro di Ferris l'amicizia fra Peake e Thomas sia tanto sottovalutata. A questo proposito riporto un preziosissimo estratto da un'e-mail inviatami l'anno scorso da Sebastian Peake, primogenito di Mervyn:

"Yes, Dylan Thomas, who regularly borrowed money from my mother, The Godess as he called her, but did not usually pay it back, would as a quid pro quo offer to take me to the kindergarten in Chelsea where I went. As we walked along he would tell me wonderful stories in his marvelous, mellifluous Welsh voice.
Stories of pirates and adventures of Highwaymen usually dominated."
